Letter from Venice

For this new issue of Letter from… column, we asked toonpool.com artist Matteo Bertelli about his life and begged for some photographs of his working place and the city he lives in, the legendary Venice, one of most romantically beautiful city in the world and a hot-spot in cultural references.
Matteo’s art is based upon a brilliant satire, and if he can handle kryptonite as good as watercolors, inks, pastels, etching, pencils or tempera we must hide Superman! Read all about it on the following letter:

1. What are your New Year’s resolutions?

My resolution for Italy is to send Berlusconi on Mars with a rocket.

2. What bores you the most?

Waiting for my wife outside and inside the women’s dress shops.

3. Do you like your place or would you like to live somewhere else?

Yes I like it much but I’m lucky because I live in Venice but sometimes I need to go out of Italy in order to breathe some “fresh air” and to see a “healthier world” because the politics situation in Italy is disgusting for me.

Venice seems to celebrate every day, not only on carnivals

La vita e bella. Living near the Rialto bridge

4. What are you able to do that Superman can’t do?

Handle a kryptonite gem

5. If you were sleep walking one night, where would you probably wake up the next day?

Under the benches of the train station or under one of the many venetian bridges.

6. What would you wear to be kicked out from a black tie cocktail party?

I think It’s easy, I can go dressed as usual and I’m sure I will automatically be kicked out.

7. Tell me the biggest prank you did on a friend.

I don’t remember, I don’t like to do pranks to a friend because I’ve a deep respect for friendship.

The chaotic drawing table, as Matteo describes it

8. How to ruin your vacation?

Force me to participate at a organized vacation. I love to improvise my vacations.

9. If I gave you a giraffe, where would you hide it?

I would hide it in a cargo ship, destination: Africa.

10. What do you do when you see the glass half empty?

I would try to fill it with a good wine.

    Hi Matteo!
It’s very nice to see you and the place where you living.
if there will be a way to get rid of Berlusconi for Italya, I believe that your cartoons (full opposition) will has an important role in this . :D And that day I will ask you to draw a few cartoon about Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the future of Turkey. ;)
Love your unique style, way of expression, and especially your characteristic Berlusconi drawing. :D
I wish you many success in the way of opposition.

    Greetings from Izmir

    really enjoyed your answers.

  5. Thank you dear friends,
Bernd is my winter jacket I bought it here in Venice many years ago in a cheap dress shop.
Thank you Menekse, Saadet, Ben and Nilgun.
Menekse, yes I’m in a completely in full opposition and angry against Berlusconi, I hate him and I know that Erdogan is a good friend of Silvio, it’s nice couple.

  6. menekse cam says:

    Haha! Yeah awesome duo!!!
I understand your anger and hatred very well. (I also have the same feelings for Erdoğan) In addition, a follower of your cartoons doesn’t need to be a soothsayer to understand it. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the freedom to express my anger and hatred as a teacher here.

  7. I understand you Matteo, here in Brazil we have many Berlusconis, if you need help to send him to Mars I’m here! rsrsr
Beautiful photos! Venice is really a wonderful city, I hope to meet in person someday. Our friend always invites me Cinzia.
