It is so popular and common used fast food, Germans have even a museum for currywurst which is basically sausage, ketchup and curry. Toonpool announces today winners of the currywurst Cartoon Contest. All 3 cartoons which are awarded commonly have talking-balloons with German text, i.e have no meaning if you cannot German. Some few cartoonists I spoke find it naturally since this is a national dish, national language and national contest. But the contest is announced for Toonpool artists which have mostly international backgrounds. I participate this contest too. My motive was not to win some money, which could be nice, but mostly solidarity with Toonpool and I like currywurst too. But I was really surprised when I saw the result cartoons. There were a lot of cartoons which had delivered to the contest were indeed without the text, like mine. My question is: If this was indeed a national contest, why ToonPool announced it for Toonpool artists which obviously many of them are non-German speaking artists. I react this because I assume this is one of ethic question in our business as well as chosen of jurors for International contests. I admit that this is a national dish, but could be a international approach by considering Cartoon art. Any way I find this experience strange, tasteless and non-international. People like me can feel nonsense or even stupid to participate this kind of national dish based contests. May be I am doing wrong by feeling as it is, but this is what I have in heart.
