If you find a cartoon on toonpool.com that you want to share with your friends, you can just click that little blue “share” button below the picture and.. voilà.

Introducing…

Hakan Arslan, AKA Nakkah, is a new member from Sinop in Northern Anatolia. The majority of his works so far are caricatures with a fair mix of Turkish and ‘international’ celebrities. The images show that he can do both traditional cross-hatching and modern digital styles. Check out, for example, Turkish football player Arda Turan, cartoonist Oğuz Aral,  actress Banu Alkan, and a small-eared Jean Reno . The one picture that’s not a portrait showcases one of those little turban/tux combinations the Turkish stores in my neighborhood sell. I only learned about their purpose two weeks ago.

Cartoons of Interest

My favourite cartoon this week is “Disaster” by Rafa. Not because it is funny – it certainly is not – but because the effective use of black and white illustrates just how bad this oil spill situation is. Of all the cartoons that have been posted on the catastrophe, I would also like to point out this Obama illustration and this cartoon about “Top Kill Mark II” (who comes up with these names ?).

I would also like to call your attention to a series of caricatures of great native Americans by Jean-Marc Borot. Jean-Marc perfectly captured the sepia mood of the original pictures, and he can do amazing things with a ball-point pen. Among others, there are Sitting Bull, Wolf Robe, and Quanah Parker. I particularly like Geronimo, whose face and pose  I always thought somewhat weird.
