On Friday, November 15 the toonpool.com exhibition in Izmir opened. If you happen to live in Izmir or are planning to visit western Turkey anyway, you should drop by some time between now and October 29. If you don’t have the time, you might just watch some photos taken at the opening ceremony.
Apart from that, I unfortunatly have to declare the Christmas Cartoon season open. Any hopes for a late late summer or at least a nice autumn that we northern hemispherians might have clung to are now officially dead. Here are some of the first Holiday-themed cartoons: 1,2,3. There will be more.
Cartoons of Interest
A hussar. The kind that probably lives in your carpet, kitchen, or flower pots.
A cartoon on ping pong. In a wasteland. It's pretty much the same as anywhere else
A classic "black humor" cartoon on a magic show. Great colors and composition
Just one of several "Chile miners" cartoons. Can't post links in here... sorry.
Another art spoof. This time it's Eugène Delacroix' "Barque of Dante"
A "Birdbee" cartoon on the perils of the affluent society. Just look at all the juices.
This strange cartoon might serve as an introduction to the world of Hezz
Questionable spelling notwithstanding, this kind of "Primative Art" is funny
This is Frida Kahlo as seen by Fabricio Manohead from Brazil. Unibrow and all.
Personal Favorite
My personal favorite is "Skaters", an illustration by Norwegian artist Jannis. I love the meticulously patterned cardigans and pullovers, the 'wheels' on the skateboard and the whole freak motif. Anyone remember that X-Files episode where they visit Gibsonton, FLA?
