Last Week on toonpool.com (October 18 – 24, 2010)

Introducing…

British-born Stephen Silver is the lead character designer of animated series like Kim Possible and Danny Phantom. He is also the author of several books on designing cartoon characters. The pieces he has uploaded so far are mostly similar in style to his TV projects. I especially liked the 60s Batman piece for Romero’s mustache, the “Crusade” piece because of Marcus, the Goonies one for all the characters.. except maybe for Sloth, and Napoleon Dynamite because I really wonder how the series will work out.

Stefani Maria Baratti AKA Perugino lives in the United States. His suspiciously cosmopolitan digital drawings are superbly executed and easily recognizable. Some of them are plain silly – take the first email, Boticelli’s muses and Zorro’s mischevious old age. Others comment on political issues like this one on Mrs. Palin or Chavez on a tractor. Then there are some that seem to be mocking modern management rhetoric (like this one) as well as some that look cool but are in Italian so I don’t really know what they are about.

Cartoons of Interest

An organization man, a derby hat, and an apple - Magritty.. but then again..

This is a cartoon on the things guinea pigs do. They are definitely gross.

This cartoon shows Metallica singer James Hetfield for what he really is: 47.

Apparently this item is missing from the recent Hitler exhibition in Berlin.

While I remain skeptical about these rendered portraits, this one is interesting

This one is titled "Camel Shortage". They found a replacement.

Another one in Ian Baker's brilliant series of James Bond characters.

"How to Identify Poisonous Mushrooms". Hand-drawn and hillarious.

At the vet's office. I just love the happy little buddy with the bone and his owner.

Personal Favorite

I happen to like the Beatles. And black-and-white drawings. And oversize heads. That's enough for me to pick another one by Stephen Silver... well .. this and the lame Silver Beatles pun.
